Theoretically, the "what if" question is pretty powerful. Here's the link to Donald Miller's original posting about "the single most powerful question":
And I don't disagree with Donald Miller. Not at all.
But I need a few more words than "what if."
I already spend too much time in hypothetical situations. Most of the time, they're incredibly unrealistic or just completely negative and worrisome. Sometimes I think this imagination is a curse. Adding in any more "what if" statements might be the death of me.
So I'm changing this idea. Adapting, if you please.
How would life be different if I (insert positive, encouraging, or interesting change of behavior or way of thinking here)?
While I'm still being speculative, this question leads to greater thinking and eventually, actions.
So here are my adapted "what ifs" :
- How would life be different if I actually read my Bible every day?
- How would life be different if I practiced piano every day for at least a half an hour?
- How would life be different if I made a new friend?
- How would life be different if I learned to trust?
- How would life be different if I published something I'd written?
Five is an excellent number.
Some of those questions could be answered in the next week or so. Some, a little longer.
Nevertheless, I am going to try and answer all of them.
