Corner girl

Little corner girl with a song on your face,
and a fire in your chest,
and a mind that runs faster than your legs will carry:
don't be afraid to fall.

Remember to sing with your fingers.
Remember to love but not to burn.
Remember to keep reality out of your imagination.
Remember to run after your thoughts.

Little corner girl, don't be afraid to fall.
Falling leads to flying.

Older corner girl with an eye that will see,
and a hand meant to hold,
and years full of regret:
don't forget that you can fly.

Remember that crying is meant to cleanse.
Remember that fingers can and will remain entwined.
Remember to have compassion on your past.
Remember to reread Woolf's Dalloway.

Older corner girl, don't forget that you can fly.
You have beautiful wings.

Corner girl falls.
Corner girl sings.
Corner girl cries.
Corner girl loves.
Corner girl burns.
Corner girl holds.
Corner girl imagines.
Corner girl regrets.
Corner girl runs.
Corner girl reads.
Corner girl flies.
