Because I no longer have to share a jar of peanut butter with the rest of my family, I tend to limit the amount of peanut butter I keep in my dorm room. Otherwise I just eat all of the peanut butter. All of it.
One 16 ounce jar of peanut butter (14 servings):

Longest kept jar: 2 weeks (This took a great deal of self-control)
Shortest kept jar: 2-3 days
I have a serious addiction.
But today it was time to buy some peanut butter.
So I jumped on the M44 bus to Ballard for the four block bus ride to Trader Joe's. Yes, I am quite capable of walking to Trader Joe's and yes, it took me longer to ride the bus than to walk. But I like taking the bus when I can. Even for a short jaunt. Many interesting folks and opportunities for people watching.
I arrived at Trader Joe's and made a beeline for the peanut butter. If you haven't experienced the brilliance of this store, you really are missing out. Their prices are relatively inexpensive and their products are high quality and delicious. Plus, all the crew (TJ's employees) wear Hawaiian shirts.
Now I'm a bit of a peanut butter snob. I was born and raised on Adam's peanut butter and have trouble stomaching Jif (although I will succumb when there are no other options). This future choosy mom will not be choosing Jif. Especially because of the added sugars and hydrogenated oils. There are two ingredients in my Trader Joe's Crunch Salted Peanut Butter: dry roasted peanuts and salt. Plus it's the stir kind.
After I grabbed my jar ($1.79), I wandered around the store, browsing through the familiar aisles. There were many little old ladies doing their mid-afternoon shopping.
I decided to do a pomegranate hunt. Lately, my pom food craze has peaked and I can hardly resist any product that says it has pomegranate in it. I slowly made my way through the store, finding pomegranate items and admiring them. There weren't any actual poms because it's not the right season. I also checked for pomegranate jam, but they did not have any. I've been on a hunt for pomegranate jam as of late. It exists, I know that. But I might have to make it myself, as seen on Cafe Fernando:

The reasoning behind the pomegranate jam hunt is because I really want to mix my two favorite foods together. I want to have a peanut butter and pomegranate jam sandwich. And then my taste buds' Bird List will be complete (More on Bird Lists later... but to explain now, they're kind of like Bucket Lists but different). I just want to see what they taste like together and to celebrate the momentous occasion of my two favorite foods coming together as one.
While I was standing in line to purchase my peanut butter, I started wondering about the other customers at TJ's. Why were they buying the foods they were buying? The man buying the pre-made salad was probably buying lunch. But the woman buying daffodils, dark chocolate peanut butter cups (good choice!) and chocolate covered espresso beans? Maybe an office meeting or party. Or maybe for a loved one. The younger man with two containers of some type of dip? A movie night or party? "Sure I'll bring the dip, you bring the chips!" Why the TJ's version of Cheetos and Mocha Crunch Squares? Movie night? Or comfort foods for a night alone?
Then I bought my peanut butter and had a conversation with my cashier about our pb preferences. She said that she goes back and forth between crunchy and creamy and I said that I'm mostly a crunchy girl. But we both agreed that peanut butter is one of the most delicious foodstuffs.
And then I walked back to the UW, satisfied with my peanut butter run and anticipating tomorrow's peanut buttery breakfast.
