Adventures of a story time assistant

at the University Branch Pajama Story Time

In the saga of Lois the future children's librarian, our hero has recently (and by recently, she means last May) taken a volunteer position at the University Branch library as a story time assistant. She bravely helps the charming and cheerful children's librarian provide a fun and enjoyable environment for story time participants, also known as children and parents.

Her duties include: helping the librarian plan story time, room set-up and clean-up, welcoming families, assisting children with crafts and singing songs with children, playing music, and making felt board stories.

These are brief moments from her story:

The trial of socks:

After making some beautiful felt socks, the assistant washed them in her homemade dryer. But now they're all discombobulated. Who will help her organize her socks now?
(Hint: The children will.)

The elephant

Wait. Is that an elephant behind her? Oh no! Someone warn her!
"Never fear!!!" the librarian cried. "The story time charms will make the elephant peaceable and plush."
Ah yes, and serenity is reestablished, thanks to the magical powers of reading.

The Felt Board Boxes

During weeks where there is no story time, the brave assistant ventures into the recesses of old felt board stories and puppets. She sifts through the stories, careful not to get her hands bitten off by disgruntled and worn-out felt creatures. Her reward for organizing the book shelves and the first box of felt pieces? Her own portable flannel board, for future story telling.
