Self Dating

a practice of self loving kindness

Last winter I discovered the concept of self-dating. I say "discovered" because I'm pretty sure it's not original, even though I came to the idea myself.

The goal of a self-date is to spend some quality time with yourself. Turn off the cell phone. Read a book. Go to a movie. Take yourself out for dinner. It's a time for quiet thinking and fun and you time.

As a person who loves people but is simultaneously drained by people, self dates are the perfect remedy. I've been to plays. Had coffee dates. Gone on a walk. Read in the sunshine. Seen a movie (and I was the only person in the entire theater!).

I try to go on a self date every week. As I'm finally feeling somewhat better after this terrible death cold turned sinus infection, and the weather has been fabulous, I decided to go on a little date to the Olympic Sculpture Park yesterday.

The mountain out in all her splendor.

Ampersands are my favorite.

You know it's a perfect day when you get to stick your feet in
some ocean. Or in this case, the Sound.

Touching helps preserve this art.

But not this art. Don't touch!

And to finish the day off, an ice cream cone
from Cupcake Royale! Happy self dating!

  1. I'm a big believer in self dates and doing things alone. That's why I always take one vacation a year alone to a place I've never been before. There's nothing quite like discovering a new city all by yourself.
