Writing an academic paper teaches me...

that I am addicted to using a thesaurus.
that I spend more time staring out the window than writing.
that a copious amount of tea is an absolute requirement for success.
that I should never write professionally (unless I want to be a bundle of stress for my entire life).
that I prefer reading to writing.
that Joshua Bell recordings make the best writing music.
that I am absolutely paranoid about using the word "this."
that there are not enough synonyms for the words "emotion" and "experience."
that I have a dysfunctional relationship with Henry James Thoreau.
that I am easily distracted by making lists about what I learn from writing.
that, although it's worth the pain, writing is really, really, really difficult (to quote Steven Moffat).

Back to the paper, folks.

  1. =) I couldn't agree more! LOVE that Moffat sneaked his way in here... because we all know what's on our mind when we're trying to do homework... ;)

  2. God, you're so damn right! I feel the same whenever I habe to write something for school (except for the tea, you'd have to replace it with coffee). I want perfection and that takes ages...so I waste a lot of time and in the end it isn't even close to perfect. Perhaps I should not have signed up for a creative writing class next term? ;)

  3. I agree with everything on your list. Especially the Joshua Bell music and that writing is difficult.
