An open letter to SIFF cinema

Dear SIFF Cinema,

National Theatre Live is presenting encore screenings of Danny Boyle's Frankenstein (with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating as Frankenstein and the Creature) during the summer.

Please please please have a screening.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is one of my absolute favorite novels. I would love to see a theatrical adaptation of the story... and especially Danny Boyle's. His adaptation gives the Creature his voice, and the double-casting of the two lead roles emphasizes the complex relationship and "doubleness" between Victor and his creation.

I would absolutely love to see this!

Sincerely,
A very enthusiastic English major with a penchant for theater, Frankenstein, and Benedict Cumberbatch

"For, while I destroyed his hopes, I did not satisfy my own desires. They were forever ardent and craving; still I desired love and fellowship, and I was still spurned. Was there no injustice in this? Am I to be though the only criminal, when all human kind sinned against me?" ~ The Creature

From an interview with Danny Boyle in the National Theatre Frankenstein Background pack:

What is the play about for you?
"It's about two things. Science and Love--and the wonder they both cause, and the tension between the two."

  1. I saw a live broadcast of this last spring and LOVED it. Seriously, it blew me away. I'm a huge fan of both of these actors; both turned in great performances. (I saw Benedict Cumberbatch as Frankenstein and Jonny Lee Miller as The Creature). Danny Boyle's interpretation was poignant and thought provoking, my friends and I talked about it for days afterwards. I hope you get a chance to see it!

  2. I have been refreshing the SIFF page like crazy, even before the encore was announced. I really hope it happens! And it looks like the SIFF page is down. *fingers crossed it updates with good news*
