A girl goes to Cambodia

Tomorrow I leave for Phnom Penh, Cambodia. My chest is having difficulty containing my anticipation, excitement and nervousness. Feels like my ribcage might just pop open and expose my hyperactive heart.

I am going to Cambodia. I keep repeating this over and over in my head but part of me cannot believe yet. After months of waiting, planning, praying, reading, The Killing Fields, fear, questioning, excitement, wonder... Cambodia is here.

Cambodia Playlist
  • "Étude" from The Killing Fields soundtrack
  • You may say I'm a dreamer "Imagine" ~ John Lennon
  • All the wounds that money causes, all the comforts of cathedrals, all the cries of thirsty children, this is our inheritance, all the rage of watching mothers, this is our greatest offense, Oh my God "Oh My God" ~ Jars of Clay

  • Blue lips, blue veins, blue, the color of our planet from far, far away, blue, the most human color "Blue Lips" ~ Regina Spektor
  • Love is our resistance "Resistance" ~ Muse
  • And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, let it be "Let It Be" ~ The Beatles
Today, a friend of mine told me that as soon as I stepped into the elevator and left the UW, I would never be that same person again. And he is right. Traveling changes me. Almost always for the better.

May God bless you with discomfort. Discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart. Amen

May God bless you with anger. Anger at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace. Amen

May God bless you with tears. Tears to shed for those you suffer from pain, rejections, starvation and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and turn their pain into joy. Amen

May God bless you with foolishness. Enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done. Amen

And the blessing of God, who creates, redeems and sanctifies, be upon you and all you love and pray for this day, and forever more. Amen

This is my prayer for this trip. And for my life.

Honestly, I don't know what to expect at all. I'm nervous and excited. Elated and a tad anxious.

Here we go. Adventure save the world time.
